Donghwan Kim has served as a church pastor for over seven years. He earned a Master of Divinity (M.Div) from Garrett Seminary and is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Pastoral Care and Counseling (MAPCC) at the same institution.
Drawing from his pastoral experience, he has worked closely with Korean immigrants in the United States, engaging deeply with the real-life challenges they face in cultural adjustment, livelihood, and family life. Through this work, he has witnessed how these external pressures often lead to emotional, psychological, and mental distress. He has provided care and counseling while walking alongside individuals in their pain, listening to their stories, and sharing both their struggles and realities.
Through these counseling experiences, Donghwan Kim has seen clients find rest, regain strength, and rediscover the courage to move forward. For this reason, he defines counseling as both a “shelter for the heart” and a “place of renewal.” He believes counseling is a space where unorganized and burdened emotions can be safely expressed, allowing clients to rest and, in time, restore emotional and psychological stability so they may face their life challenges again with clarity and resilience.
Donghwan Kim provides both general counseling and clinical-level counseling, offering support for a wide range of concerns—from everyday struggles to deeper psychological issues. He works with clients across diverse age groups, from adolescents to adults. His primary therapeutic approach is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), through which he explores the connections between thoughts, behaviors, and emotions. Throughout the counseling process, he helps clients develop healthier ways to cope with emotions and stress, walking with them as they work toward practical and meaningful solutions in their daily lives.
