Based on over 25 years of extensive counseling experience, Dr. Cho is dedicated to helping Koreans around the world heal from emotional pain and wounds and reclaim healthier and happier lives.
Dr. Cho, who previously served as a professional counselor and professor in Korea, moved to the United States to expand her clinical and research fields into counselor education and clinical training. Realizing the lack of culturally and linguistically appropriate mental health services for immigrants within the Korean community—despite over a century of Korean history in the U.S.—Dr. Cho established the Chicago Korean Mental Health Institute in 2018 as a specialized psychotherapy institution for Korean compatriots after much deliberation.
Initiated with the goal of providing psychological counseling services that deeply consider the culture and emotions of Korean immigrants, the Chicago Korean Mental Health Institute is now expanding its scope beyond Korea to include multilingual counseling services in English, Korean, Japanese, Spanish, and other languages for immigrants and multicultural families with diverse cultural backgrounds. In addition to providing various psychological counseling and educational services for the mental health of the Korean community, Dr. Ok-Soon Cho serves as an Associate Professor in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program at Moody Bible Institute, dedicating herself to training counseling professionals for the next generation.
